Dutchess Woman Charged With ID Theft In Ulster County After Using Fake ID At DMV

A Poughkeepsie woman was charged with felonies after presenting a fake ID in Ulster County to Department of Motor Vehicle employees while attempting to transfer a vehicle title, police said.

Veronica Reyes, 29, presented a fake ID with her photo and another client ID number as identification when she arrived at the DMV to clear up the issue, police said. The DMV in question then contacted authorities.

Veronica Reyes, 29, was charged with the felonies of second-degree identity theft and second-degree possession of a forged instrument on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

According to state police, an Ulster County car dealership sent paperwork to an area DMV location to register a vehicle and transfer its title. Reyes, the vehicle buyer, was reportedly contacted by that DMV about a possible error in the sent paperwork.

Reyes presented a fake ID with her photo and another client ID number as identification when she arrived at the DMV to clear up the issue, police said. The DMV in question then contacted authorities.

Reyes was taken into custody by officers from the state's Bureau of Criminal Investigation, virtually arraigned in Kingston and then released on her own recognizance. She will return to court later in November.
